Conveniently located, this solid yet unspectacular course still has enough great holes to make it worth a round or two.The closest course to central Bangkok is also one of the finest; 20 minutes after leaving your city centre hotel you can find yourself immersed among lakes and trees of Muang Kaew Golf Club, with no sense of how close the city is. Whilst the wide, well maintained fairways are fairly forgiving of all but the most brutal hook or slice, all 18 greens are not only very well guarded by high-lipped bunkers but also occasionally elevated, unusually for Thailand. On the downside, the fairways are very flat and not exactly inspiringly framed, often just running side by side with the previous hole, and the contouring of the putting surface is fairly average. However, while some of the par-4s are fairly routine, there are some exciting par-3s and par-5s where water hazards push you into some strategic thinking. From the par-5 13th, you have a blind tee shot followed by an approach over a large expanse of water needing a carry of around 150 yards; on the 18th, a hidden pond can punish approach shots that fall short. While there are more interesting challenges in the area, the course has a lot to recommend it, not least its proximity to central Bangkok.
